“Ellie has been a fantastic partner in our campaigns at Pancreatic Cancer UK, we started working with her on our Demand Faster Treatment petition in November 2018 and thanks to the videos she created for us, we were able to generate over 100,000 leads in that campaign alone. She has since been a key partner in all of our campaigns and our go-to person for creating visually engaging video content that gets our message across to new audiences. She is always full of great ideas and never misses a deadline, I would recommend her to anyone looking to make their messaging come to life through video content and design.”

About Pancreatic Cancer UK

Pancreatic Cancer UK supports people with one of the fastest acting, most ruthless forms of cancer. They carry out research, run campaigns and offer expert information.

I supported various teams from 2018-2022 including the health information, individual giving, events and research teams.

Here are some of the stand-out projects.

How we worked

Demand Faster Treatment

Demand Faster Treatment was an award-winning, multi-method campaign that called for treatment within 20 days for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, to improve survival rates. The central call to action was a handraiser / petition.

This was the first campaign I worked on with PCUK. My part was contributing to creative development, storyboarding, and then producing multiple versions to be tested on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) using existing footage and simple motion graphics. These ads successfully generated over 100,000 signatures for the PCUK’s petition.

Having me on hand, meant the team was able to tweak the creatives throughout the campaign. For example, when the deadline for the petition was approaching, we created urgency in the video itself by drawing attention to the deadline.

I later went onto work in a similar role on other campaigns including Early Diagnosis, No Time to Wait, Transform Lives: Prescribe and more.

Surviving Pancreatic Cancer

Living with, or surviving pancreatic cancer is rare. That means those that do, can often feel lonely. PCUK organise an annual meeting for supporters who are in this situation.

I organised a film shoot on this day to gather some of the moving stories shared on this day. I took two trusted videographers along with me, designed the visual set-up, directed the shoot and edited the resulting footage into long and short-form content.

The stories of those who survived acted as comfort for those who couldn't attend in person, as a source of hope for those diagnosed and a motivator to call for better testing and more research so that survival rates improve. They also formed the basis of several more succesful Facebook marketing campaigns for PCUK, as well as organic content for their day to day posting.

Patient Information Series

Expert health information from charities can be life changing. PCUK runs a helpline, staffed by trained nurses who offer a wealth of specialist knowledge. I was asked to produce some video to accompany the written information this time provides to improve engagement and accessibility. The videos included interviews with people experiencing pancreatic cancer.

The information team provided draft scripts, which I offered advice on, based on my experience producing health information in video formats before. I also organised the shoots, including sourcing videographers and designing the visual style. Laregly watched within the context of PCUK’s online information, this series had over 45,000 views.

Shortly after this, the pandemic began and I also supported the team to provide vital information to people who had their treatment plans changed or paused because of lockdown.

Here’s one of the videos.

Results

It would be hard to count people who watched these videos, given there were often numerous creatives, with multiple variations, shared on multiple platforms. But what we can be said is that the reactive and responsive way I was able to work with the team at PCUK meant we were able to achieve significant campaign success and very broad awareness of the issues facing people with pancreatic cancer.
